Some people view advanced virtual reality as a drug. Like the movie Strange Days. The human race will find a way to abuse everything. Even utopia.

Virtual reality will need resources to maintain like anything else - it'll be just another drug for people to get addicted to. A lobotomy will provide the same manner of utopia.

I believe that we will have utopia when we can use renewable resources for everything that's important, and have robots advanced enough to do the important jobs for us (it's important that the worker robots are not given weapons or programmed to have anything resembling emotions)
