A few weeks back The Pirate Bay was caught running a cryptocurrency miner in users' browsers running JavaScript. Phuks devs decided that was a great way to cover expenses without running ads or selling emails or whatnot, so they crafted an opt-in version and made a leaderboard.

Quick-and-easy way is go to https://phuks.co/miner and press the 'start mining' button (Ublock Origin might block it, so add an exception if that's the case). The more enthusiastic contributors are running a proper miner for more hashes-per-second.
