Hi guys. I didn't see an FAQ, and I'm guessing most goat refugees will be wondering about at least some of these, so I guess I'll just ask about some things I haven't already seen answered.

  1. What is the official term for the user base? Is it Phuks, Phukrs, Phukheads, something else?
  2. Are there any limits on upvoting/downvoting based on comment/submission phuks you have accrued?
  3. Are there any community norms or cultural aspects at Phuks that I should be aware of?
  4. Aside from night mode and disable CSS are there any other features that I should be aware of?
  5. What is the general consensus here concerning power mods, content curation and censorship?
  6. How bad are your grammar nazis?
  7. No preview button? What gives?!

Seems like a nice little community. Do you guys worry about all the assholes showing up and turning the place into voat?

I also have some questions, if it is all right to tag them onto this thread. I've heard a few varying opinions about this site but I prefer to see things for myself rather than rely on the opinions of others.

  1. What is the general political leaning of the user base?
  2. What prompted the exodus from Voat for the older members?
  3. What is the owner/operators views on freedom of speech?
  4. Should we worry about shadowbans? (In the event someone says something that goes against the grain of a perceived "hive mind")
  5. Should Goats expect a cold welcome here?

Outside of that, I don't have many other questions but I feel as though I will either ask those in time or discover the answers for myself. In advance, thank you for your service thus far. You have a nice looking home.

  1. None, Left, Right, Up and Down are all represented. It's hard to say where the biggest numbers are because many of us are filthy centrists.
  2. There wasn't really an exodus. It was a gradual trickle, that did build speed over time, but we all had different breaking points.
  3. They favour free speech. But everything has limits. The best of causes can be corrupted when taken to an irrational extreme. They will make the call based on situation and context, rather than blind rules. If the intentions are good, there will not be any problem that can't be worked out. But there won't be much tolerance for vote/site manipulation, malicious acts, or people with an agenda war to wage.
  4. They have made it clear that they will not use shadowbans. All admin and mod actions are publicly logged and can be viewed at any time.
  5. Goats will generally get a warm welcome. Most, maybe all, of us were/are Goats.

I have one. How free is your speech?

[–] jobes 2 points (+2|-0)

disable CSS

Unless you hate some uniqueness, no need to disable it. They have banned all external links and imports for CSS and any custom image must use the site's own image host. It hasn't been forcibly enforced yet, but will be soon during the grace period of adding the new rules.

I'll give it a try. Disabling the CSS is just force of habit, some of those other sites can have very obnoxious CSS.

3 Are there any community norms or cultural aspects at Phuks that I should be aware of?

Everything else has been covered by others, but I can add to this one.

We're allergic to drama.
It's the one common trait among most existing phukkers. We got tiered of the noise and unnecessary fighting. So we try to avoid battling, and foster an atmosphere of 'live and let live'. Nobody has to pick a side, or take an oath.
Also, nobody cares about votes, so there hasn't been much manipulation, or really much downvoting at all.

...3. Please attempt to stay reasonably close to the guidelines laid out in RFC 1855

...6. We have only the best.

>What is the official term for the user base? Is it Phuks, Phukrs, Phukheads, something else?

Phukkers is commonly used, I don't think there's an official term

Are there any community norms or cultural aspects at Phuks that I should be aware of?

We're a chill community, be decent to your fellow users. We all just want a place to post about hobbies/interests, nobody wants a reddit police state or the full blown autism-drama of voat.

What is the general consensus here concerning power mods, content curation and censorship?

lol "power mods"... until today there was about 20 active users, most former voat/reddit users who have no interest in such silly internet drama. It's more like a collection of folks with interests, you're welcome if you want to talk about the topic but if you're a dick and express Amalek-like autism chances are the sub owner will warn you to go act like damn retard in SDBH where it belongs.

How bad are your grammar nazis?

I don't think we really have those here, we don't care about shit like that.

What about the Nazi nazis??? ---Guess where I'm from. :-)

[–] Justintoxicated 0 points (+0|-0)

Well actual Nazi Nazis would be well into their 80's so as a history fan I'd probably bother them with incessant questions about what life was like during World War II

[–] NeoGoat 1 points (+1|-0)

:-) Speaking of people who were on loosing sides, I saw a very old, short video of Confederate Civil War veterans doing the Rebel Yell. It was "yip yip Yip Yip", which did not sound that blood curling. However, if the men were not extremely old and on television, but were young, healthy, on horseback, and charging at you with guns and bayonets, I don't doubt the effect would be a little different.

  1. Users, generally. Phukkers, maybe.
  2. If you have negative phuks given, you can't downvote anymore, that's the only voting restriction.
  3. Everyone here is pretty chill and laid back as it is a small community. Drama in general probably won't be well received. There's probably other stuff but you'll just pick that up. Admins are more accessible than on most of these kinds of sites, that's maybe a point that sticks out.
  4. I believe you need to opt in to view posts flaired as NSFW. You can do that by clicking the cog in the top right to go to your settings. We have a level system with a couple of restrictions, you can make subs at level 2 which is around 40 upvotes. You won't get captchas anymore after level 4, it doesn't take long.
  5. We have mod logs, site logs, complete transparency over banned users, post deletions, banned domains etc. Our TOS is very broad concerning the conditions that need to be in place to remove a mod in order to avoid that situation. So far this has not happened. Have a look through the TOS, and read some of the other discussions on posts from today about it.
  6. You will be immediately permabanned for typos.
  7. There is a task open to implement this. We have previews on comments and stuff, just not text posts. An oversight.
[–] green_man [OP] 3 points (+3|-0)

Thanks for the response. I did look through the TOS, I probably should have mentioned that, and saw another post asking about it so I didn't bring it up. I really like the captcha concept, the negative phuks given restriction, and the transparency.

Not an admin, just a member...

  1. Nothing official, but "phukkers" seems to be about the most common.

  2. I don't believe so. I'm pretty sure about this.

  3. Basically the golden rule and "don't be a dick"

  4. On the front page and sub pages (not post pages) there's a chat window at the bottom right that you can click on to expand. It ties into an IRC channel where devs and some others of us hang out, you talk through a relay bot. That's probably about the biggest different feature.

  5. Everything is as transparent as possible, been like that since day 1. Comprehensive mod logs.

  6. grammer*

  7. There is a preview button for comments, perhaps it's not for posts? I haven't thought to check, but that's probably it.

[–] green_man [OP] 3 points (+3|-0)

Thanks for the prompt answers. I'm glad to hear about the transparency and comprehensive mod logs. I see the preview button for responses, maybe I missed it, I'll have to double check for posts.
