If you are wanting to buy something, now is the time to do it. 90% of China's manufacturing is shut down. If items are not being produced, nothing is being shipped, then it is only logical that supplies for certain products in other countries will dry up too.

If you want to order, go to somewhere local that will have it. A lot of people don't realise how much manufacturing has halted in China. Soft industry products aren't going to be restocked for the foreseeable future. If you need something, I would buy it now.

I'm talking about cheap Chinese chit like basketballs, electronics or toasters and jugs. If Apple has stopped manufacturing products, then I can assure you that other companies probably have as well.

I'll be definitely buying a few things to keep in reserve. Even if the economy goes back to normal, I'd need them anyway so it's not a loss to me. But it's better to have some items in stock just in case.

I think you're right. The SSD's I buy went up 20% in price over the past two weeks. If this continues a tech recession is likley as consumers will just keep their old stuff even longer.

I think the shutdowns actually occur every year because of Chinese New Year. From what I've read most of the manufacturing areas are resuming production over the next few days. The reason the outbreak came at a bad time was because so many people would be traveling and gathering for the festivals but from a production standpoint it happened to hit as they were about to shutdown anyways. It will be anywhere from 2-6 weeks in the US before the resumption of production is felt. Any smart business that imports from China had already planned for the annual shutdown so any abnormal price hikes are just taking advantage of the coronvirus situation.

Given that a lot of our meat is shipped over there for processing because it's cheaper to ship it there and back, you should consider what you're eating too.

India will pick up the slack until Corona gets walked across the Himalayas.
