Hothouse earth phases have been caused by natural processes in the past - the current short term heating spike is human induced, and could lead to runaway global heating due to various climatic feedbacks like permafrost melt, deforestation, and arctic sea ice cover.

For the last 10000 years human civilization has thrived in a stable climate - if we had a collective brain we would not want to change that.
