After some advice on my last post I got radeon 580rx graphics card along with a SDD and power supply.

Opening up the boxes makes me wonder if I'll need a larger computer case. This card is gigantic.

Wish me luck that I dont brick the whole thing in my attempt.

One build I did, I had to go in hard with the metal snips to get the card in. Fun times. I'm about due for a new case myself as I've recycled this one since 2006.

You should be fine.

Query: PSU? Was your old one not enough for the new card?

Keep us updated.

By the way, you should be able to just copy the current hard drive to the SSD so you can boot from that. No need to reinstall everything - though you might want to. Fresh OS is always nice.

Well the graphics card was the easiest part.

I discovered my previous psu was only 450 wats. So while looking for a 600 one, I found an 850 for $65. Only $11 more than the 650. So how could I resist?

Anyways got about 90% of the old psu and cords out, then I hit the main motherboard cable. I've struggled with these in the past due to how tightly they're held in and fear of breaking the motherboard. But this stupid compact case is making it near impossible to pull out. And if it's this difficult getting out, I don't want to even attempt putting it back.

I dont have much on my HDD that I I couldn't easily back up. I was considering taking some advice and down grading to windows 8. But that'll be a project for another day.

8.1 is better than 8.0 but not by leaps and bounds. You'll need to do some serious configuration changes and some registry hacks to make it useful all the way around, though.

Damn. Theres no 1337 version like XP darklite?

Also I'm at a loss now. The card uses a different cable to the monitor than my old one. The monitor I was using didn't have the port. So I switched one my gf got me a couple months back. Everything re assembled at it booted. But I'm getting to video signal.

Not sure if the monitor is defective as I haven't tried it. Or the card is fucking things. Suggestions?
