I started compiling a list of things that we were taught in school but they are complete bullshit and I thought it would be good to get feedback from a variety of other Americans and see if there are some that I am overlooking or that I was never privy to. What are some things you were taught in public school that you now know to be complete bullshit or just socitial norms that fucky. Here are some examples that I could think of. I may write a book on this never tried to do that before not sure I have one in me I am pretty stupid in general but man the more I learn the more i see how dumb the average person really is.

Incest creates retarded babies (not condoning just wondering where this comes from an is it true)

Circumcision is good

War on Drugs is a good thing (& what was DARE program really about)

Everyone is special or talented

Food Pyramid

what do you got? any fond or un-fond memories of your indoctrination?

'you will need to write cursive everyday!'

...they werent WRONG. Im just the only dumbass who took this literal.

It is kind of sad because I think we were the last generation that will be taught cursive. It is basically latin now.

my friends cant read my handwriting.

I plan on homeschooling my children so I can teach them. It might be that 'one thing' that sets them apart from a candidate for a position in the future.

We were all taught that Capitalism and the USA were the best of all possible systems/countries ever. Never a word about how capitalism depends on keeping a certain percentage of us jobless and homeless to scare workers into conforming. Nothing about how a consumption based economy depends on subjugating weaker nations and turning the planet into burned out resource stripped rubble. Nothing about how it would require several planets for everyone else on earth to have the same standard of living as Americans.

Civics class "how a bill becomes law" completely left out the fact that most laws are written by corporations, pushed by their lobbyists, passed by paid off politicians, enforced by crooked cops and upheld by corrupt judges.

good points some and this is why I don't understand forced immigration/diversity shit.. so take people with almost no carbon footprint and make them american consumers, it's just not sustainable.

Capitalism has brought more people out of poverty and relieved hunger more than any other system ever and life is better now that it has ever been. Doesn't mean it is sustainable or we can't do better but it's not fair to ignore the good parts or capitalism too. I am more into politics not economics but I am learning and open minded and they have intersectionality.

Masturbation makes your palms hairy

WTF? I have never heard of hairy palms. I've heard things like masturbation makes you go blind, drains spinal fluids, causes heart disease. But never hairy palms.

Anything a scientist said anywhere.

The blatant brainwashing about the Holocaust that was shoved down our throats every single year from fifth grade to graduation.

I'm not saying it was a complete hoax, I'm not agreeing with /pol/ to the extremes of their beliefs, but when you step back and look at the whole thing with an open mind it starts to get a little odd. The holocaust is not the most recent nor the most significant genocide in world history, yet it is the only one you are not allowed to question and it is the only one public education focuses on. There's an entire network of propaganda built around instilling one specific view point and silencing any questions. Seems a bit off to me.
