Voat will love the title.

I live in NZ. Ever since we've had that shooting, we've suddenly discovered that we've got a massive white supremacy problem.

I don't mean to steal from the left-wing and call a terrorist a lone-wolf, but he couldn't have been more of one. To put the blame on a systemic problem in our country is hideously stupid.

Tarrant wasn't a Kiwi. He lived here for a few months before getting a gun. He was traveling around the world going to countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan and North Korea. He wasn't put through any Kiwi institutions. To blame ourselves for what this guy has done is illogical.

If I made this post in another context, like /r/NewZealand or some random FB politics group about NZ this post would be misconstrued at sticking up for Tarrant. By not attacking my own institutions, which the guy never got involved with, puts me on the same side as him. It's bullshit, but not if you look at it through a mainstream lens.

Tarrant is a retard. There's no doubt about that. But the institutions, schools, culture, etc of New Zealand isn't the issue despite how the narrative has been framed.

In my mind, the real issue is why did we let an immigrant have a gun? If someone deserves to have weapons it should be for citizens of the land. It's real weird that we let this guy in (there's literally open borders between Australia and New Zealand), let him have a gun after a few months and he did his thing. If I were the one to change the gun laws, that would be a provision I make to the laws. You should be a citizen before you can get legal access to a weapon.

I don't like talking about this topic. I don't do it to hide his face -- that's bullshit. Streisand effect. What I dislike is how fast the government leapt on to monitoring conversations and blocking websites. A few guys are under trial for having a copy of the video itself. At what point will my discussions of this topic leap into dangerous territory that could be misconstrued into support for him? That's an uncomfortable thought but it's something I definitely keep in mind whenever I talk about the retard.

"White supremacy" has a number of definitions not the least of which is this idea that anyone can be proud of their country and keep out other races as long as it's not a group of white people doing it.

Of course, this alone doesn't actually mean that there isn't a white supremacy problem but if there are neighborhoods in the US where Muslims run out every other race, if there are places in Israel where no one but Jews are allowed, if the entire country of North Korea can control its borders to keep out everyone except North Koreans, if Japan can keep out Muslims and no one has a conniption fit over this, then whites can do the same and should be able to do the same without criticism.

If you can be proud of being African, English, Japanese, Chinese but can't be proud of being white, there's a anti-white problem, not a white supremacy problem.

This dude says it best

how fast the government leapt on to monitoring conversations and blocking websites

And that's the point of most of this. The internet is the electronic wild west and they're desperate to control it because they know that when left to themselves, groups of people become ethnocentric and nationalist. And that destroys the goals of a lot of other people who think they know better than everyone else.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a group of people having their own land and wanting no other foreign groups in it. It's xenophobic, for sure. But sometimes a group of people just want to be left alone and not mess with the challenges and sometimes problems that come with other cultures.

Why should acknowledging a fact be a problem?

I suspect that the Tarrant shooting is being treated in NZ like 9-11 in the US. A tragedy great for exploiting to pass massive surveillance laws and by pointing that the tragedy wasn't caused by an organization, he is nullifying the reasoning for the new laws.

The Patriot Act was already written before 9-11 and the writers knew it wouldn't pass normally so they just put it on a shelf and waited(probably for years) for the right opportunity to pass it. Then just slap a "You Can't Vote Against This" title on it and it's insta-law.
