Recently-ish someone told me he received a DNA kit from a family member, refused to use it, and subsequently was labeled a selfish jerk and conspiracy theorist (his side of the story).

It's not a conspiracy at all, it already been used to convict.
I'd probably mess with my family and say I can't risk my DNA showing up in those rape kits.

Same, except it was my gay brother and not my sister. Ok sure as a result we learned some Welsh people actually knew my creepy great great grandfather and he fled the homeland because of his crimes. That was kind of cool to learn, but not worth my DNA being in government record

My sister sent her DNA in to one of those ancestry sites, so my DNA privacy is compromised.
