The finals this year will be between the Golden State Warriors out of the western conference, and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the eastern conference. There are five curses in play that could potentially affect the outcome of the finals this year, so here's your run-down in advance of game one on Thursday.
The Stephen A Smith Curse: Stephen A. Smith is a loud-mouthed, shitty "analyst" that works for ESPN. He has made 6 finals predictions prior to this, all of which have been incorrect, making him 0-6. He has predicted that the Warriors will win this series in 7 games.
The San Antonio Spurs Curse: The Golden State Warriors swept the Spurs in the western conference finals in order to reach the NBA Finals this year. Since 2008, every single team that eliminated San Antonio in the playoffs has lost the very next round they played.
The Alabama Curse: LeBron James, power forward for the Cleveland Cavaliers and arguably the greatest basketball player currently playing (few would argue against it, I think), has never won a championship if the Alabama college football team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, did not also win their national championship the same year. This year, Alabama lost to Clemson in the championship game, 35-31. Great game, by the way.
The Toaster Curse: The Golden State Warriors have not lost a single game - 27-0 - since shooting guard Klay Thompson of the Warriors signed a toaster belonging to a Reddit user named RDollaz. Some arguments are that the toaster is not boosting the Warriors, but rather causing injuries to their opponents, allowing for easier opposition; every series had a critical player for the other team injured for every game of their series'.
The Kevin Love Curse: Kevin Love, power forward and center for the Cleveland Cavaliers, has never lost a playoff series.
A quick primer as we get ready for Thursday night, game 1.
That's a great rundown!
